Family, community and service.
Early in the journey to start my own business, I defined three key pillars that would guide our actions and define our purpose. The first pillar is family. I want to build something that will sustain my family and provide opportunities for my kids plus our employees, our partners, our investors and their families.
The second pillar is community. Community is place, but more than that, community is people. We chose Arlington for our business because of the people who live and work here. I want Urban Alchemy to continually demonstrate a reciprocal affinity for our friends and neighbors and earn a place alongside others that are truly endeared by this community.
Finally, I want to build a company that gives back. I’m so grateful for the blessings in my life and the indelible marks they’ve collectively left on me.
Similarly, each time I’ve had the opportunity to give back, it has sown seeds of giving tenfold, and the cycle continues. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure to work with several amazing non-profit organizations as a board member or volunteer. Some organizations assisted people with their basic needs, taught a skill, or were there to listen when times were tough. I want a commitment to philanthropy to be built into Urban Alchemy as deeply as our commitment to our core business, our families and our community.
To build that third pillar, we need help from the second one. That’s you, our Urban Alchemy community! Over the coming weeks, we’ll ask you to share with us your favorite non-profit that serves our community here in Arlington. We are particularly interested in those organizations that fall into one of the following categories: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment or Social Service.
Once we hear from you, we’ll narrow the list down to five, then we’ll once again solicit your input by asking you to pick your favorite. After we tally the votes, we’ll announce (with the appropriate amount of fanfare) the winner! Each year we’ll repeat this process, allowing us to support a number of nonprofits over time.
